Disassembly of the Western Digital My Passport Essential (R/N: B7B ONLY!!!)

READ THESE NOTES BEFORE COMMENTING OR EMAILING! This procedure is ONLY for the Revision Number B7B version of this model. There is a R/N: B8B with the same model number Which does not allow the removal of the USB controller as it is built onto the drive. Once again, to clarify because people still seem confused about this: The USB controller on B8B drives is not removable from the hard drive. That means it's not a standard SATA drive but a hybrid drive which has a USB port on it instead of a SATA connector. Yes you can remove it from the case but the drive will not be usable for any other purpose so it's pointless to attempt disassembly for B8B Drives. DISCLAIMER: By following these instructions your 3-year WD warranty is VOID. All rights reserved, trademarks are the property of their respective owners and your actual experience may vary.
